Oude Kerk, November 15 - December 15, 2002
World-Information Exhibition
The exhibition consisted of the three parts "World-Infostructure", "World-C4U" and "Future Heritage" that outlined the evolution of communication technologies and their consequences in relation to society, exhibited historic and state-of-the-art control and surveillance technology and displayed digital artworks and installations.
World-InfoCon
In addition to the exhibition in the Oude Kerk, on 6 and 7 December, 2002, De Balie hosted the World-InfoCon conference 'The Network Society of Control', an international and interdisciplinary forum on the issues of surveillance, security and freedom of networks. The tidal wave of new security legislation that has followed the tragic events of September 11, 2001, have made a critical examination of information politics in the network society uncommonly urgent. The Amsterdam edition of World-Info-Con 2002 was an international and interdisciplinary forum to examine the recent developments in information law, policing and surveillance, and intellectual property rights in the digital domain. Program Day 1: Security Paranoia in the World-Info-Sphere. Program Day 2: Building the Digital Commons.
The event is accompanied by the workshop program and education program for high school students.
