MOTHER NATURE

46min.

Zeke and Paddy from Hull, discuss the unlikelyhood of a second war in the gulf..... Made as one of 13 streaming films for public art project Speechless [www.speechless.org.uk] commissioned by HTBA which explores the current phenomenon of the gentrification and branding of cities as a strategy not only of marketing, but also of success, regeneration and wealth. Working with some of the less gentrified people in Hull, Mike Stubbs examines the gaps between planners' 'visions' and perceptions of 'traditional' social economic systems which inform and shape individuals and communities. Cities chase success using similar values to be seen as viable; quality of life, economic growth, Premier League football clubs determine a league table of cities. Of course this is full of contradictions. 2003, UK, 3 mins. Directed by Mike Stubbs
