Koz-Hegy: xs4all-Budapest

I. Activity Profile

1. Dial-up Internet acess : Very cheap shell (Telnet, ftp, gopher, lynx, IRC, talk) account, competitive SLIP or PPP. Access for all.

2. Providing online data : Linking the separately existing databases of hungarian NGOs with each other and the rest of the world through the Internet (hypertext, gopher).

3. Buliding and distributing hardware : Building a cheap unix machine, NepGep. Selling second hand parts and systems.

4. Helpdesk : Providing technical support to the users, to set up and install modems, to fix errors.

5. Publishing : Publishing stuff related to hacking and the Internet, propagating cyberculture and describing the proper use of systems. Starting a fanzine.

6. Cybercafe : Opening a new alternative local, where terminals linked to the Internet are available to the public. Transforming it to the center of the emerging hacker-subculture of Budapest (this role is taken by american type fast-food restaurants nowadays).

The Board of Editors is responsible for the conception of work and all actions taken. Part time job, they meet once a week and discuss the situation and the actual problems. The Managers (full time job) are keeping in touch with the users, the media and building connections, they are responsible for all the admininstrative work. They control the work of the others. The managers are responsibile to the Board of Editors. The managers take part on the weekly meeting, and answer the questions of the Editors.

Server : The unix programmers (Sysadmin) are working at the server. They are responsibile for dealing with the users and the online databases, the security of the system.

Hardware Dept. and Helpdesk : The hardware specialists are building NepGep ( gris@desk.nl), selling second-hand parts and systems, fixing hardware errors and providing technical support to the users.

Cybercafe : The Cybercafe staff is responsible for running the cyberdelic designed local and keeping the terminals free of beer, drugs, grass and flame wars ;-).
