Paul Chan

Biography

Paul Chan is a New York City artist and a 2003 Rockefeller Foundation new media arts fellow. He is the director of National Philistine (www.nationalphilistine.com), an online aesthetic think tank. His interactive and video work have been exhibited worldwide. His latest digital installation, which reinterprets the work of outsider artist Henry Darger and Utopian socialist Charles Fourier, can be seen at the Greene Naftali Gallery in New York City in June 2003. Chan's video work is distributed by Video Data Bank (www.vdb.org). Chan recently spent one month (Dec 2002-Jan 2003) in Baghdad as a member of the Iraq peace team, a project of Voices in the Wilderness, a Nobel Peace prize nominated group working to end the sanctions against Iraq. The goals of IPT are to rally support for resisting the war and occupation on Iraq and publicize the effects of a possible or ongoing US assault on Iraqi civilians. At present, 3 members of the Iraq peace team are still in Baghdad.
