In the second half of the 20th century, anarchist artists from PROVO, feminist movement Dolle Mina, Amsterdam squatters and media activists influenced Dutch state politics and changed public opinion with their sensational actions. What were they fighting for and what has become of activist art today? The exhibition tells the story of creative protest movements in the Netherlands from 1960s till 1990s, when those movements flourished, and also includes pieces by contemporary artists working with political themes today.

Anarchist utopias and political happenings, feminism of the second wave and squatters' culture are represented with archive materials - photos, videos, documentation of performances and actions, posters, drawings and manifestos. A video installation, composed of historical documentary footage, emerges the viewer in the context of past events. Works by contemporary Dutch artists Melanie Bonajo, Vincent Boschma, Constant Dullaart, Zoro Feigl en Nicoline van Harskamp, reflecting on the legacy of activism as well as their critical interventions in today's public space, establish an essential connection between activist history and the present time. For the occasion of the exhibition, a new edition of the legendary PROVO magazine is being published in Russian. PROVO-founder Roel van Duijn will give a public lecture on the history of this movement.  In the exhibition space, media activists group Rabotnik TV will build a squat living room, where the Amsterdam pirate media archive will come to life. Artist duo Zoro Feigl/Vincent Boschma will create a temporary sculpture in public space in support of LGBT movement in Russia.
