<b>Folk Songs</b><br /><i>Folk Songs</i><br />R: Le Ann Erickson (USA, 2007, 12’, documentary, BetaSP)<br />Through immigrant memories FOLK SONGS explores issues of personal identity and their connection to land, language and belonging. It’s a lyrical and impressionistic rumination on the filmmaker's Bulgarian heritage and explores the impact of family and tradition and the simple, lovely gestures that unite generations.<br /><br /><b>RGB XYZ!</b><br /><i>RGB XYZ!</i><br />R: David Oreilly (Ireland, 2008, 13’, animation, DigiBeta)<br />RGB XYZ! was discovered in late 2007 when a gardener accidentally dug up<br />a hard drive buried somewhere in central Europe. The hard drive soon<br />found its way to filmmaker David O’Reilly, who distributed the work online.<br />What seemed like incomprehensible nonsense was actually a story of loss<br />and adventure. <br /><br /><b>On the Sunny Side of the Alps</b><br /><i>Na Sononi Strani Alp</i><br />R: Janez Burger (Slovenia, 2007, 15’, fiction, 35mm)<br />Racist tendencies are growing in Slovenia amongst the population as well as the government. To receive government funding director Janez Burger submitted a script that dealt with an abundance of beautiful Slovenian traditions. After receiving the money he shot the story using black actors for the complete cast. Had the government known this, he most likely would not have received any funding. <br /><br /><b>Gaining Ground</b><br /><i>Land gewinnen</i><br />R: Marc Brummund (Germany, 2006, 20’, fiction, BetaSP)<br />Andrei has been living illegally in Germany for seven years. When the time comes for his son to start attending school, Andrei realizes that he cannot go on living this clandestine existence. He finds himself at a fork in road: send his son to school and risk being evicted or ruin his sons future and safely keep flying under the radar.<br /><br /><b>Samual</b><br /><i>Samual</i><br />R: Tami Ravid (The Netherlands, 2005, 11’, fiction, 35mm)<br />Amsterdam by Night. A reality in Black and White. Ghanese Samual arrives by boat in search of his pregnant daughter who he hasn’t seen for ages. Despite the grey images of the city, Samual keeps his spirits up in search for an important memory.
