The American Dream

Author: redactie redactie

The most interesting thing about this presentation was not the presentation itself, The American Dream by Jan Minkiewicz, but the opinion of it’s maker.
Although the presentation itself provided an unique perspective on the more unexpected effects of 9/11; The American Dream was a exhibition that ran prior to and during the 9/11 attacks and consisted of collection of photograph depicting the height of the Immigration into the US. The management of the Van Gogh decided against altering this exhibition in response to the 9/11 attacks. It was his opion about the Next 5 Minutes festival itself that I found so interesting. Mr Minkiewicz has been actively involved in providing for and creating, as he puts it, tactical media projects in a conventional media setting in the Eastern European countries, especially Poland, since the eighties. He feels that this festival has largely ignored the effects of 9/11 on Eastern Europe and beyond, for instance the use of institutionalized violence against the rebels and citizens of the Tsjetjenian Republic under the banner of the US proclaimed War on Terror.
