BAkSCII
Mobile Wireless Internet Access Point

The BAkSCII is a wireless internet cafe, ready for instant deployment whereever and whenever the need arises.
Constructed around 4 Open Brick computers, 4 TFT flatscreens, one hub, a 12 V battery and a wireless network station, the BAkSCII was originally intended to be mobilized on a Bakfiets ["Box-bike", i.e. a bicycle with a large cargo box on the front] during the TML. Since ASCII's relocation due to an unreasonable rent increase on their space, the BakSCII has been the core component of their internet cafe at the squatted EasyCity space.

Calum Selkirk of ASCII reports on the final day of the construction of the BakSCII at the Amsterdam TML:

The BAkSCII (ascii's mobile wireless box) should be up and running in Bijlmer tomorrow (friday) all going well with power, kbds
and blah.

It's yet to be tested under "mission critical" settings and so here we go yo ... 'course anyone who wants to come out
and put power to the peddle or simply be there for tear jerking when it drops from the sky then .. please do .. it's also friday and that generally means News Hour, beer and the like .. so ..

thanks to all helped realize bakscii, especially Rob (who appeared from nowhere whenever we needed to make a trip to the
hardware store .. and his incredible jigsaw skilz), to Blouwdamn (correct spelling?) for all the tools lent, to Jaap our resident
brickscii, to ALL the ASCII's, Genderchangers and passing through
germans/italians/etc who lent a hand, carried, climbed, figured out power supply and made helpful comments, and to all those who provided tea, coffee, beer .. and blah (hopefully that covers everyone) .. ohh .. and thanks to N5M for the money to buy all
those expensive TFT's :P
