Dr. Richard Barbrook was educated at Cambridge, Essex and Kent universities. During the early-1980s, he was involved in pirate and community radio broadcasting. He helped to set up Spectrum Radio, a multi-lingual station operating in London, and published extensively on radio issues.

The veteran vehicle was developed in order to give a public voice to veterans struggling with the difficulties of returning to civilian life.
It has been a preoccupation of mine in imagining the supermarket as a
locus for political assembly. Clearly, it has already overtaken
religious assembly. In the UK the big brand Supermarkets like TESCO and
SAINSBURY are principle organizers of daily life. The ritualized
relationship between customer and supermarket have been carefully
constructed and maintained to a degree that compares to the
construction of religious faith.
Tuesday evening May 24 the theme issue (Im)Mobility of Open, Journal for Art and the Public Domain was presented at the Stedelijk Museum Bureau Amsterdam, in combination with a screening of The Forgotten Space, a film by Allan Sekula and Noël Burch, and a Q & A with filmmaker Noël Burch.

In the second half of the 20th century, anarchist artists from PROVO,
feminist movement Dolle Mina, Amsterdam squatters and media activists
influenced Dutch state politics and changed public opinion with their
sensational actions. What were they fighting for and what has become of
activist art today? The exhibition tells the story of creative protest
movements in the Netherlands from 1960s till 1990s, when those movements
flourished, and also includes pieces by contemporary artists working
with political themes today.
We are the outraged, the anonymous, the voiceless. We were there, silent but alert, watching. Not gazing upward at the powers that be, but looking from side to side for the right time to unite with each other.
ReadOne of the four main themes of the N5M3 is the 'Post-Governmental
Organisation', a title that is meant more polemically than
descriptively. The 'PGO' label raises the question of the practical,
political and ethical impli cations of strong, potentially global,
independent organisations. The theme will be approached from different
critical, analytical and ironic perspectives in a public debate, and
the PGO Design-Show ("Get Organised!").

Consultant for the Dutch Fund for Visual Arts, Design and Architecture. Various teaching positions. Lately pursues an independent research on the interplay between citizens and their habitat - the Emotional Architecture.

On Saturday, the 12th of March 2011, a few minutes before six, the second Video Vortex reader was presented to the audience of the sixth edition of the Video Vortex conference. Editors Geert Lovink and Rachel Somers Miles invited the contributors to the second volume, who were present en masse, to celebrate the launch of the book on stage.
