A brief history of "The Journal of the Mental Environment."
The
core idea behind Adbusters, the essential critique that motivates our
struggle against consumer society, is mental environmentalism. And for
seventeen years, since the seventh issue of Adbusters was published in
1993, the subtitle of the magazine has been "The Journal of the Mental
Environment". But, what exactly is mental environmentalism?
Unshackle the Human Spirit!
The most precious natural resource is human spirit. A close second is
human imagination. Spirit and imagination will do more than oil, gold
and guns to determine the fate of the human experiment on Earth, an
experiment that has never been as precarious as it is today.
We, OccupyLA, agree that the legal state of affairs at many occupation
sites is unacceptable. Mass arrests are numbering in the thousands
across NYC, Boston, San Francisco, Chicago, Denver, San Diego, Long
Beach and many more cities.
WikiLeaks releases today the "Investment Chapter" from the secret negotiations of the TPP (Trans-Pacific Partnership) agreement. The document adds to the previous WikiLeaks publications of the chapters for Intellectual Property Rights (November 2013) and the Environment (January 2014).

We are republishing two short texts here on this subject matter to speculate about the question if 'Rojava' could offer a repeatable model for post-governmental political design?
01. These are precarious times. These are eventful times. Let us note some of the symptoms of this instability. There is September 11,and the prospect of a new form of American empire that uses September11 as its pretext. There is the global stock market slide, triggered by the collapse of American tech stocks, which altered the lives of chip-makers in Korea and Coltan miners in the Congo. These are instances of what I call weird global media events. They are events because they are singular. They are media events because they happen in a vectoral space of communication. They are global media events because they call a world into being. They are weird global media events because they defy explanation. They subsume every explanation as mere ripples and eddies in their wake.

Dear Friends,
This essay was published today in The Nation. It's
an attempt to discuss what the atrocities of September 11 might mean to
those of us who are publicly critical of corporate power and the
current global economic model. There are no easy answers to this
question so the essay is more of a meditation on symbolism and tone
than a political roadmap.

Frequently at frontiers we are asked, "Anything to declare?"
The wisest thing to do when faced with the scrutiny of a border
official is to say that you have "nothing to declare", and quickly move
on. Crossing borders usually entails an effort not to say too much, or
at least to get by with saying very little. A degree of reticence is
the mark of the wise and experienced traveller.

Adbusters, the Canadian anti-advertising magazine that he founded.
Activists are using the internet to fight large companies over ethical issues. Yet many major brand-owners lack a clear counter-strategy. Earlier this month a group of environmental activists staged a sit-in at Shell's London offices. Although Shell turned the power off and cut the phone lines, activist Roddy Mansfield broadcast the protest live to the internet and e-mailed the press, using a digital camera, laptop computer and mobile phone.

The antiwar demonstrations of February 15, 2003 proved it: theself-organization of free singularities is possible on a planetaryscale. And that was an event, despite all that followed. In amanifesto-text written just after those demonstrations, I used thelanguage of Negri and Hardt to say that the multitudes could create arift in Empire. In a context where the Aristocracy (the greattransnational companies) had been weakened by a string of financialdisasters, where the Monarchy (the political and military command ofthe earth) had fallen apart in serious dissension, I wanted toencourage the democratic action of the Plebe, against the scorn of theAmerican, British, Spanish and Italian leaders. It was a moment thathad multiplied the world's political stages, overflowing thetraditional mechanisms of representation.
