In their curatorial statement for the exhibition, Really? Art and Knowledge in Time of Crisis (2024), Mi You and David Garcia explore how artists address the erosion of trust in knowledge and the rise of disinformation through investigative and critical practices.
Frequently Asked Questions About Justice on Trial
It is neither easy nor popular to go against prevailing assumptions in society, especially when they pertain to how justice is dispensed in this country. But speaking out against injustice is and always has been the moral assignment of those who are inspired by the promise of American Freedom. That's why Johanna Fernandez and Kouross Esmaeli sought to tell this difficult story of a system gone awry in the case of Mumia Abu-Jamal. Dissecting what went wrong - and what continues to go wrong - in the American justice system when it comes to people of color or of lesser economic means (and working toward correcting those injustices) is an essential civic duty, and the basis of Justice on Trial.
ReadJustice for Cecily
Cecily McMillan was brutally arrested at an event marking the 6 month anniversary of Occupy Wall Street on March 17, 2012. In the course of her arrest she sustained a violent police beating resulting in bruised ribs and a seizure. Cecily was hospitalized for those injuries. The egregious incident received extensive media coverage. Cecily was later charged and convicted with felony assault of a police officer, Assault 2nd degree, a Class D felony in NY, which carries a sentence of up to 7 years in prison.
A support campaign for the Occupy Wall Street organizer and activist is raising media attention and financial support.
ArtLeaks
It is time to break the silence!
ArtLeaks is collective platform initiated by an international group of
artists, curators, art historians and intellectuals in response to the
abuse of their professional integrity and the open infraction of their
labor rights. In the art world, such abuses usually disappear, but some
events bring them into sharp focus and therefore deserve public
scrutiny. Only by drawing attention to concrete abuses can we
underscore the precarious condition of cultural workers and the
necessity for sustained protest against the appropriation of politically
engaged art, culture and theory by institutions embedded in a tight
mesh of capital and power.
Restore the Fourth
Restore the Fourth to hold protests on July 4th for Fourth Amendment Rights. We're protesting to restore the Fourth Amendment:
"The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated..."
Human rights, testimony, and transnational publicity
In the period between the end of the cold war in 1989 and the events of September 11, 2001, human rights became the dominant moral narrative by which world politics was organized. Inspired by the momentous political and cultural transformations taking place at the time, from the fall of the Berlin Wall to the spread of global communications technologies, promoters of human rights discourse optimistically predicted that a transnational public sphere dedicated to democratic values would emerge (We now know, of course, that such predictions were wrong, as early post cold war hopes gave way to the harsh realities of contemporary globalization).
Marching Plague
REALLY? - Art and Knowledge in Time of Crisis
Opening on 22 June 2024 at Framer Framed, the exhibition Really? Art and Knowledge in Time of Crisis highlights the ways in which the scientific disciplines – historically associated with truth-telling – are increasingly used by cynical actors of big corporations and rogue governments alike to obscure, mislead and effectively capitalise and weaponise ignorance. The exhibition is curated by David Garcia and Mi You.

The Law of Web TV
Internet policy is hard to enforce, but there is no harm in thinking it through. On the other hand, whatever order there is in the Net is generally the result of focussed self-organization: namely that the elements that constitute the medium, technology, market, infrastructure, policy and consumers, fall into place rather quickly and often better than expected.
