The Seropositive Ball was a networked event that lasted 69 hours
non-stop. It was a shadow conference to the World AIDS Conference, which
was held the same days in San Francisco. Because people with HIV and
AIDS were not welcome in the USA, both the Paradiso gathering as well as
the especially designed 0+net offered a way to show commitment, share
feelings and insights, exchange knowledge and art and express political
views for many people involved.
ACT UP, AIDS Coalition To Unleash Power, is a diverse, non-partisan group of individuals, united in anger and committed to direct action to end the AIDS crisis, started in 1987. We meet with government officials, we distribute the latest medical information, we protest and demonstrate. We are not silent.
ReadThe Strategies for Tactical Archives conference investigates how documentation and archiving can feed into living practices of activists, artists and media makers that address the position of communities who feel aggrieved or excluded from the wider public culture.
The program consists of a public keynote lecture on Friday evening October 27 (starting 19.30) by Sarah Schulman, writer, activist and co-initiator of the ACTUP Oral History Project and author of Let the Record Show - A Political History of ACTUP New York, 1987-1993. This is followed by a one day conference on Saturday October 28 (10-17 hrs.) at Nieuwe Instituut, Rotterdam.

This summer, communities across the world will celebrate Pride Festivals
commemorating the birth and victories of the Gay and Trans Liberation
Movements. Despite the profound social change these movements have
accomplished since the first high-heels were thrown over the barricades
at Compton's Cafeteria and the Stonewall Inn, it is clear that the
struggle for queer, trans, and gender-variant liberation is far from
finished.
