Readnet.radio days 98 was this year's manifestation of the annual Radio Days forum, exploring the innovation and experimentation of radio art. This year's conference was hosted in Berlin in June of this year. It was a symposium focused on a new generation of streaming media practitioners, utilising software such as Real Audio to broadcast audio content live on the internet. This phenomena is being dubbed, net.radio.

ReadOn Friday April 3, 2009 we received the terribly sad news that our friend and ever inspiring colleague Oleg Kireev from Moscow had died, apparently as a result of suicide. We are left behind as friends and colleagues, bereaved and puzzled by this dramatic fact. Kireev was a prominent guest in some of the most important projects in the art / media / politics triangle, which we had the honour developing at De Balie. Kireev was a crucial figure in circles of free culture, media activism and the arts in Moscow, one of the most demanding environments for such activity one can think of.

Anonymous can not, and will not stand idly while people are being
denied their basic rights and human liberties. Yet, there are still a
lot of governments worldwide who fail to even aspire to the standard of
freedom that was set by the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
These governments believe they have the right and privilege to impose
upon their own people an 'official' version of 'reality' which isn't in
any way tampered by the truths of everyday life under which its
citizens are living. Anonymous believes this is an outright crime which
can not go unpunished.

and visual art, we observe the disintegration of former boundaries and
discover the emergence of a new discourse involving new metaphors and
new mythologies. In the course of this voyage we witness the
crystallization of a process which began in the Enlightenment and today
is linked together by electronic technologies. Mediated by television,
and lately the Internet, the concepts involved here, have contributed
to the construction of a simulated reality in both medical science and
art which imprisons attention and redirects it from the subject of the
activity reproduced.

ReadOne of the major challenges facing citizen groups campaigning to prevent, minimize, limit or regulate socially-irresponsible or environment-degrading practices of transnational corporations is how to deal with the corporations' increasing call for 'dialogue' and 'cooperation'. Many transnational corporations say they have seen the error of their ways and have rectified their mistakes. Eager to do their best for 'our common future', they claim to be listen to their critics. Thus 'dialogues' with companies or industry organizations are frequently portrayed as the way ahead for citizen groups seeking corporate accountability, rather than 'confrontational' strategies such as boycotts. What are the dangers and limits of doing so?
One of the four main themes of the N5M3 is the 'Post-Governmental
Organisation', a title that is meant more polemically than
descriptively. The 'PGO' label raises the question of the practical,
political and ethical impli cations of strong, potentially global,
independent organisations. The theme will be approached from different
critical, analytical and ironic perspectives in a public debate, and
the PGO Design-Show ("Get Organised!").
Tactical Media emerged when the modest goals of media artists and media activists were transformed into a movement that challenged everyone to produce their own media in support of their own political struggles. This "new media" activism was based on the insight that the long-held distinction between the 'street' (reality) and the 'media' (representation) could no longer be upheld. On the contrary, the media had come to infuse all of society.
ReadTopographic representations of the built environment of cities tend to emphasize the distinctiveness of the various socio-economic sectors: the differences between poor and rich neighborhoods, between commercial and manufacturing districts, and so on. While valid, this type of representation of a city is partial because there are a variety of underlying connections. Further, it may even be more problematic than in the past, given some of the socio-economic, technical, and cultural dynamics of the current era. One step towards understanding what constitutes the complexity of large cities is the analysis of interconnections among urban forms and fragments that present themselves as unconnected.
