Opening on 22 June 2024 at Framer Framed, the exhibition Really? Art and Knowledge in Time of Crisis highlights the ways in which the scientific disciplines – historically associated with truth-telling – are increasingly used by cynical actors of big corporations and rogue governments alike to obscure, mislead and effectively capitalise and weaponise ignorance. The exhibition is curated by David Garcia and Mi You.
This debate will address some of the doubts that hard core activists have about the usefulness of art in a political context.
On March 22nd and 23rd 2013 the Institute of NetworkCultures will organize the event Unlike Us #3. The aim of Unlike Us is to establish a research network of artists, designers, scholars, activists and programmers who work on 'alternatives in social media'. Unlike Us was founded in July 2011. Through workshops, conferences, online dialogues and publications, Unlike Us intends to both analyze the economic and cultural aspects of dominant social media platforms and to propagate the further development and proliferation of alternative, decentralized social media software.

ReadA collaborative, activist and conceptual art work of the net
Jordan Crandall is an artist, theorist, and performer based in Los Angeles. His video installations, presented in numerous exhibitions worldwide, combine formats and genres deriving from cinematic and military culture, exploring new regimes of power and their effects on subjectivity, sociality, embodiment, and desire. Crandall writes and lectures regularly at various institutions across the US and Europe. He is the 2011 winner of the Vilém Flusser Theory Award for outstanding theory and research-based digital arts practice, given by the Transmediale in Berlin in collaboration with the Vilém Flusser Archive of the University of Arts, Berlin. He is currently (2012) an Honorary Resident at Eyebeam art and technology center in New York, where he is continuing the development of a new body of work that blends performance art, political theater, philosophical speculation, and intimate reverie. The work, entitled UNMANNED, explores new ontologies of distributed systems -- a performative event-philosophy in the form of a book and a theatrical production. He is also the founding editor of the new journal VERSION.
ReadEric Kluitenberg is an independent theorist, writer, and organiser on culture, media and technology. He is the editor-in-chief of the Tactical Media Files, and a Research Fellow at the Institute of Network Cultures (2013). He teaches media theory and history at the Art/Science Interfaculty in The Hague.
ReadThe Next Five Minutes is a conference, exhibition and tv program taking place between 8th and 10th January 1993 in Amsterdam, that wants to leave behind the rigid dichotomy between the mainstream, commercial and national tv on one hand and marginal independent tv on the other. Although these differences may still be important, N5M wants to focus on tv-makers crossing the borders of tv-making and going into the spaces that the tv-world still has to offer.
